Undetected Crime, by Duke Smith

Too many times crime is undetected because of the lack of surveillance of the area, the contents of an area or physical property stolen.  We take for granted that just because we put it there that it means that it will be there when you go to retrieve it.

Crimes of Identity Theft, vehicle theft or shop lifting are usually crimes that are crimes of opportunity.  The individual that conducts such a crime does so because they "feel" like they will not get caught.  If they felt that they were going to get caught, most indicate that they would have waited for another opportunity elsewhere.  Do't be that elsewhere!

In the resent robbery and subsequent shooting death of Vernon Forrest, Atlanta police stated "without surveillance video from a Mechanicsville apartment the night of the crime, detectives would not have solved the case."  We could out of respect for Vernon Forrest and his family end this article right here, however justice screams that we draw attention to several items.  First look specifically at the crimes, because there were multiple crimes committed to Vernon.

Wikipedia has states on their site the following, "At about 11:00 pm EDT on July 25th 2009, Forrest stopped at a gas station in the Atlantaneighborhood of Mechanicsville.  With him was his 11-year-old godson. As the boy went inside the gas station, Forrest went to the back of his car to add air to a low tire. As this occurred, a man robbed him at gunpoint and fled. Forrest, who was armed, went after the man and shots were exchanged. After a short distance, Forrest gave up the chase and began walking back to the gas station. It was then that the man shot Forrest seven to eight times in the back. According to police, the shooter and a second person left the scene in a red Monte Carlo.   Forrest was pronounced dead at the scene and the death was ruled a homicide. On August 4th 2009 Atlanta Police arrested and charged a 20 year old man for his murder."

The major record and subsiquent witness to the detection of these multiple crime scene records was because property owners took upon themselves the financial burden and implementation of CCTV camerasthat provided this footage.  We all owe a sence of gratitude to those businesses that realized the level of property awareness that is necessary in the Atlanta area today.

Security Cameras and Security Notification systems are all necessary when you live in a major metropolitan area such as Atlanta.  A quality security system installed by Rottweiler Security provides more than just your typical security solution and the additional notification provided keeps you informed.

Unfortunately, this tragic story like so many crime events this year, does not end well for the victim.  If the perpetrators of these crimes had known they were being recorded, they probably would not have done the crimes here but sadly, would have moved on to another location.
