45 Critical Seconds in Home Invasion, by Duke Smith

Many do not know that I am coming up on an anniversary!  No, its not marriage or graduation but one in my professional career.  Although I still look like a strapping 20 year old that I once was, I am coming up on my 30th year working in the communications and security industry!  Yes, its true!  30 years in the profession of Nano-second technologies!  After all the millions of telephone calls, tens of thousands of telephones installed and thousands of security systems I reflect on the most important 45 seconds of home invasion prevention.  You probably were not told of the missing 45 seconds of home invasion, so I will shed some light on the topic.

Part of working in communications all your life is the analyzation of the call process as well as the valuable seconds lost during the phone call process.  The truth is that during a break in or home invasion, there are 45 seconds that are hidden in most security system communications during transmission notification.  Most security systems rely on numerous layers of slow and non working technology for security systems.  That's not all, if the truth were known, about 90% of all security systems are even more exposed than that and are susceptible to line cuts.

The First 30 Seconds...

Most programmers give the first 30 seconds for opening the door and putting down your keys, groceries and other issues allowed to enter your code.  If you are like most people it took you about 6 seconds to read this paragraph.  You still have 24 more to go before an alarm is triggered.

"People without hope Group"

Ever wonder why so much home invasion happens here in Georgia?  Well, 20% of all homes do not have a security system because they believe that it will never happen to them.  When home invasion happens to this group, no one is notified.  From this group, we talk to the victims and family members of victims after the home invasion.  60% of all rapes occur in this group of home invasion victims.  If they are fortunate, they will be at work.  When they come home, some of their possessions will be missing.  They will spend the day talking with insurance adjusters and calling for a security system.  Over the next month they will spend valuable time contacting various businesses for quotes on the missing items and a contractor to fix the door or window.

"The Naive Group"

Today over 30% of all home owners have disconnected there home lines.  Additionally there are millions of residential and business customers that have switched to VoIP or some other service passing through the Internet.  Vontage estimates that they have over 2.5 million subscribers.   Many of these individuals do not check or have not checked their security system in months to make sure it is functioning.  Because it is not working, no one is notified.  They still are responsible for the contract and have not had service in months.  This group of users has the same issue as those without hope.

"The Failed Hardware Group"

Because of economic issues in 2008, companies did not talk about when the cellular backup units became obsolete or the vendor that they bought if from was either unavailable or uninformed.  Upgrading was necessary due to upgrading in the cellular industry that took effect February 18, 2008.  From that date cellular providers in the US were no longer required to maintain the analog cellular services that Honeywell, Telular, Uplink, DSC Sky Route and well as others that use the 800 MHz bandwidth.  FCC authorized this to reconfigure the 800 MHz bandwidth channel.  For those that had cellular backup (if you did not upgrade), it probably does not function.  If a office or home invasion were to happen to these individuals, no notification will happen because they thought it was working.  If you still have a line connected to your system, test it by unplugging the line and set off the alarm.  If no one responds, it does not function.

"The Save Money Group"

You join this group to save a few dollars (approximately $ 180/ year) or you did not have knowledge of who to talk to.  Many in this group have either disconnected service for monitoring or did not establish service when they moved in.  Those individuals are paying full price for home owners insurance rather than receive the 10 - 20 % discount for a monitored system in the home.  If a fire would occur in the home, no one would be notified and probably they become the next victim of carbon monoxide poisoning or fire burn victim.  It takes only minutes for a fire to en-golf a home, 45 seconds could save your life, a little shorter than it took for you to read this article.

Rottweiler offers security notification that bridges the 45 seconds of delay that almost 90% of other providers provide.  Don't delay, start getting serious about your families safety today and get back the 45 seconds that you loose when using another provider.
