Again Boiling Water in Atlanta, by Duke Smith

The "Boil Water Advisory" went into effect again the other day for parts of NW Atlanta.  This comes right behind another Boil Water Advisory from the Buckhead pump failure back in June of 2009.  Both of these advisory notices are to notify you of the risk of "waterborne infectious agents".  What are those agents you ask that lerk in the bowels of Atlanta's water system?

Now that's the part that is usually not discussed.  It could be positive samples for fecal coliforms that were not killed by the chlorination process.  Or it could be harmful bacteria in the water that may cause illness that could send you to the doctor with some real pain from either vomiting or diarrhea.  Either way individuals that live in this area have had the water system compromised causing thousands of people at a potential health risk.

Had the valve that was accidentally turned off had a notification device installed on it, the department head could have have been notified of the valves state.  Simple, low-cost notification systems available today from Rottweiler Systems have the ability to notify companies of critical valve status to avoid such failures in critical systems.

The pump failure that services a critical area in Atlanta's Buckhead area also could have notified someone seconds after the failure of the generator failure had this device also had a critical notification system installed notifying individuals when it occurred.  Notification systems have been around for years and applying them in critical areas that can notify someone of the event of a failure can save a company or in this case a water municipality thousands of dollars in lost revenue and repairs.  The units are simple to install and can be adapted to cellular backup in areas that do not have land lines susceptible to line cuts.

Notification Systems also play a role in any area that can not support a traditional security system.  Areas that they protect are cell tower sites, refrigeration units and hospital water, filtration or oxygen tank levels.  Simple installation to many different devices allow for notification to many different device status.

Rottweiler Security installs and services all such devices and if you need a critical system notification system, give us a call.
