Time Does Not Change Everything, by Duke Smith

This weekend is the roll back the clock weekend.  Along with that comes the numerous devices sold that will need the time changed manually.  The things that will be effected are operational issues in general but there are a few items that you will want to address on a personal level.

First, buy the batteries for your smoke detectors and install them!  We have been fortunate in Rottweiler that we have not lost a client to smoke inhalation yet.  I know as we touch more and more customers and continue to grow that this will not always be the case.  So this week make it a priority to do so.  The holidays are quickly approaching and with the added candles, tree lights, decorations with heating lights in them and the fire place running make sure you are safty aware and take the time to change and test your smoke detectors.

Please take checking your smoke detectors serious.  The largest groups of victims are children under 5 and people over the age of 65 are the highest fatality groups in the event of fire.  However, fire is not the biggest threat but the poisonous gases that are emitted during a fire.  Thousands of people die each year from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Second, if you do not have them, make sure your fire extinguishers are charged and in working order.  You should have one on every level of your home.  Make sure that there are not obsticles in the way of the extinguisher.  Access to and availability can save you from fire damages if you can get to it quick enough.  Make sure all members in your family know how to use them.

Change the air filter in your furnace.  Many people are already coming down with the flu and colds.  If you have clean air you may be able to avoid both in your home.  We are not in the business of air filter exchanges, but having healthy air in your home is good for everyone.

Businesses with card access systems may not all change with the new time this weekend.  Depending on the software release, you may have to manually change the time each time that it changes.

You may also have to change the time on some business phone systems.  Make sure that you have the instructions prior to Monday morning to avoid the frustration of waiting in line with others that did not take the time and do this on Friday.

Most security systems are transparent to the system time change.  Because our web enabled security systems are computer driven, this time adjustment will happen automatically.  Those that monitor certain areas by the clock there is not an adjustment necessary to do.  The time will transmit via the cellular transmitter and will push from the cellular tower network.
