Air Conditioner Theft, by Duke Smith

While finishing the security system in The City of White's new administration offices, I noticed a fax that was sent by a company called "Today's Fax".  Probably what caught my eye was the title, Thieves Try To Stay Cool.  Seeing anything that mentions theft,  security or the awareness of security threats is part of what this Rottweiler Blog keeps building on.

According to the article, the ongoing problem of the theft of air conditioners continues to happen even with the lower prices of copper these days.  In previous years we saw an increase in air conditioner theft as the price of copper continued to spiral upwards.  A typical theft of this type usually happens during the day for residential units and on the weekends for office complexes.  To remove and load the unit takes about 10 minutes for the theft to occur, usually notifying no one.

Last year we had a church that had 6 of its air conditioners stolen so if you are thinking that no one would steal from a church, think again.  The damages for that theft exceeded 25,000 dollars.  With the increase of reports of stolen air conditioners we implemented a combination of devices that triggers at the time the cover is lifted.  Even if you have a security system IN your home, chances are the air conditioner is not included with the system.  So, what should you do?

Rottweiler Security includes the necessary device that triggers immediately should someone lift the cover that protects the unit from the interior parts within the air conditioner.  Your business needs to make sure that the units are protected from theft as many units are placed in hidden areas around the office building.  Just because the unit is on the top of the building does not mean that it will continue to remain there.  When you are purchasing a new unit, ask for the unit to have the security device added so it does not come up missing.  Make sure to have it attached to your security system.

Device installation takes about an hour and the overall cost is about 300 dollars to secure the unit which is much cheaper than the time it will take to interact with the insurance company less deductible for the missing unit.
