Are You Preventing Your Silent Killer? by Duke Smith

I have to admit that what brought me to the decision to start Rottweiler Security was a hidden threat of a silent killer in my home that I was not aware of.  My furnace, that contains the air exchange and part of the cooling system, was not cooling the home as fast as the heat was rising.  A call into our air conditioning company brought a technician out that did the necessary repairs.  When he arrived he asked if I was suffering from headaches or dizziness at times?  Since he was not my doctor, I asked him why would he ask the question.  He said that the exhaust from the water heater was off of the gas water heater and all carbon monoxide emissions were going into the home!

That's all it took for me.  After I purchased the carbon monoxide detector, the monoxide detector did not connect to any notification system and since the furnace was in the same area,  there were no heat detectors or smoke detectors as well.  In my world, that was a problem because I assumed that my home was safe for my family only to discover that it was not.  That was the first nudge for me to change  the way things were done in the security business.  I discovered that some states are now requiring CO2 detectors and in my opinion they should and it should be mandatory.  To help understand what carbon monoxide poisoning is, lets find out more about what it does to your body as you inhale it.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is the number 1 cause of poisoning deaths in America.  It is often called CO2 poisoning and the symptoms include vomiting, flu-like symptoms, headaches, and a feeling of disorientation.  The more extreme cases cause death by asphyxiation and permanent, incurable brain injury.  If at times you have any disorientation or dizziness immediately call a friend or doctor and go outside to see if the symptoms go away.  If you do not have any carbon monoxide detectors that provide detection, you have no way of knowing if this is what is happening to you.

Carbon monoxide poisoning causes brain injuries and even death can result.  Common areas of leaks of carbon monoxide come from a defective furnace or other gas-powered equipment in a house, apartment, office, store or other building.  In office buildings not having carbon monoxide detectors leaves you liable.

In my home I was not aware of the danger that was from within.  Now that you know, will you take action now and put a carbon monoxide detector in your home or office.  Don't wait until it is too late to do anything about it.  As we turn the corner and head into fall, this is the time of the year that the weather starts to demand the furnace, fire place or wood stove will start working again.
