WiMax vs. LTE, who do you think will win?

Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access - that's what the acronym WiMax is derived from.  WiMax is an Atlanta native and was the first into the Atlanta arena, however WiMax has a better ring to it.  Those who befriended it first are hoping that it will outlast the competition about to come into the ring.  It's trainer, Evolving Office, also is hoping for a victory too because it has placed allot of hope in this fighter.

Now enters the competitor, 3GPP Long Term Evolution, also known as LTE.  Taller and broader however with less experience and really not known by the crowd of business spectators watching.  However the reach of this new competitor can be a threat.  Now it's your turn to place your bet, which fighter do you think will win or will you put your hopes on either?

Business spectators usually look at only two things, advertising and cost.  So, they place their bets, wait for the introduction and the bell to ring.  The first punch comes...the bill, ouch that must have hurt!  But who goes down?  The early implementing customers!  They were standing too close to the ring and should have taken a step back, you can say that the advertising worked though!

Its kind of fun to think of this as a boxing match, but for those who are looking for a better Internet solution, I wonder if either will really draw in the masses necessary to sustain a good market share.  If you are a mobile user and you need that traveling wireless Internet connection, then WiMax will work for now.  However with LTE and major cellular on the horizon better offers are sure to come along.

For a small business WiMax is competitive if you are in the 3 lines or less type of business.  Add in a few lines and now your costs have gone up to a bottom line a little lower than the traditional DSL with three line packages out there.  If your business needs that margin to stay alive it might be worth considering or would be a good move for you until you run into issues.  When its your business in pain, you can bet you will feel it too.

Fixed businesses with offices that require stable service your traditional NuVox, CBeyond or at&t services are your best bet.  Most of the providers have lowered their rates and if its been a while since your telephone bill check up it probably is time for you to have us check it.  There is a good chance you could be saving 100 or more dollars a month on dial tone and Internet services.

The best kind of application for this type of service is the quick in and out business that only comes in for a few months and does not want to wait for services or will move from one location to another in a few months.  Because it is a wireless solution, you could possibly save some money.  However the foot print of service may not be large enough to place the bet on this newer provider.

Customers are reporting that the Internet provided by WiMax seems to be stable.  So if you are looking for a wireless Internet provider that can travel with you, this might be a good solution for you.  But do not commit to long term contracts, LTE is in the ring now and the competition may be worth considering down the road.
